In January of 2011, Adam presented his composition “Nervous Energy” at the Jazz Education Network Conference in New Orleans, where it was performed by members of the University of North Texas One O’clock Lab Band.
The following week, he participated in the first annual West Point Jazz Knights Composers Forum in Marlboro, NY, where he had new compositions for big band performed by the West Point Jazz Knights, and worked with three other selected composers under the direction of esteemed jazz composer Jim McNeely.
In March, Adam worked with Klezmer authority Hankus Netsky from the New England Conservatory to arrange and prepare music for The Soul of Jewish Music, which premiered in Los Angeles and featured iconic violinist Itzhak Perlman, among other talented artists.
He ended his first year of doctoral work at the University of Northern Colorado, premiering an arrangement of “Afro Blue” for UNC Jazz Lab 1 that featured visiting guest artists Donny McCaslin and Jeff Coffin as part of a Tribute to John Coltrane concert at the UNC/Greeley Jazz Festival. This band, as well as the UNC Vanguard combo that he also plays in, won “Best Graduate Large Jazz Ensemble” and “Best Graduate Jazz Group/Combo” in Downbeat magazine’s 2011 student music awards.
In August, Adam performed with UNC Jazz lab 1, featuring Terell Stafford and Jeff Clayton at the Telluride Jazz Celebration, marking his fourth year as a performer at the festival.
Most recently, Adam won the Ithaca College Jazz Composition Contest, which includes performance and publication of his work. He plans to continue performing and writing for groups of all sizes.
